The T2/FLAIR hypointensity of corticospinal tracts during Wallerian degeneration was initially demonstrated by Kuhn et al.,[3] though the subsequent study did not demonstrate such phenomenon out of 150 patients.[4] Identification of corticospinal tract signal intensity changes and DTI abnormalities during Wallerian degeneration is strongly and significantly predictive of motor outcome of patients.[5]

Pathology of bilateral pulvinar degeneration following long duration status epilepticus
PURPOSE To define the neuropathological findings of pulvinar degeneration seen in long duration status epilepticus. METHODS We review the clinical, radiologic, neurophysiologic, investigational and neuropathological findings on a 27 year old woman who died after 162 days of prolonged refractory status epilepticus. RESULTS Continuous EEG monitoring confirmed recurrent uncontrolled seizure ac...
متن کاملCapecitabine-induced leukoencephalopathy involving the bilateral corticospinal tracts.
An 80 year old lady with a history of metastatic sigmoid carcinoma presented with expressive dysphasia and unsteady gait 4 days after commencement of adjuvant capecitabine chemotherapy. MRI demonstrated restricted diffusion and T2/FLAIR hyperintensity involving the course of the bilateral corticospinal tracts, the corpus callosum and the middle cerebellar peduncles. Discontinuation of chemother...
متن کاملVisualization of Brain White Matter Tracts Using Heavily T2-weighted Three-dimensional Fluid-attenuated Inversion-recovery Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The purpose of this study was to elucidate which white matter (WM)-tracts are visualized on heavily T2-weighted three-dimensional fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery (hT2w-3D-FLAIR) images. Records of seven patients who underwent hT2w-3D-FLAIR and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) of the head at 3 Tesla were analyzed. Two neuroradiologists determined WM-tracts visualized on hT2w-3D-FLAIR and ident...
متن کاملDiffusion-Weighted MR Imaging of Intracerebral Hemorrhage
OBJECTIVE To document the signal characteristics of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) at evolving stages on diffusion-weighted images (DWI) by comparison with conventional MR images. MATERIALS AND METHODS In our retrospective study, 38 patients with ICH underwent a set of imaging sequences that included DWI, T1-and T2-weighted imaging, and fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR). In 33 and 1...
متن کاملRetrograde Wallerian degeneration of cranial corticospinal tracts in cervical spinal cord injury patients using diffusion tensor imaging.
Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) has the potential to reveal disruption of white matter microstructure in chronically injured spinal cords. We quantified fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) to demonstrate retrograde Wallerian degeneration (WD) of cranial corticospinal tract (CST) in cervical spinal cord injury (SCI). Twenty-two patients with complete cervical SCI in the chronic s...
